Spinach is one of the healthy greens we should often include in our diet. We should make a practice of including spinach atleast once a week. We can make many variety of dishes using spinach. Keerai Kuzhambu is one of the variety which is a very delicious main course with rice.
Spinach Gravy (Keerai Curry)
Ingredients
*spinach
*1/2 cup – small yellow lentils dal
*2 – tomatoes
*3 – shallots
*4 – garlic cloves
*1 – slice ginger (fine chopped)
*2 – dry red chilies
*4 – small green chilies
*1/2tsp – turmeric powder
*1/2 tsp - mixed fenugreek spice/ talipu
*curry leaves
Step 1
●wash the dal gently and drain and remove the roots and wash the spinach thoroughly. Chop the spinach finely.
●2 cups of boiling water add turmeric powder, dal, garlic cloves, green chilies, tomatoes and salt 1/2tsp cook till soft.
Step 2
●till dal cook soft add spinach 3 to 5 minutes in low flame.
●once the spinach cooked well mash well with thick spoon or blend.
Step 3
● Heat up the cooking oil in a pot. Add mixed fenugreek spice, chopped ginger, shallots, dry red chilies, curry leaves. The smell of sauteed is very tasty
● Add mashed spinach bring to quick boil. And don’t forget to taste and add salt. Serve hot with freshly steamed rice and a vegetable stir fry.
