Pelvic cramps are known symptoms of getting your period, but it's not the only body area affected by menstruation.
Actually , some women experience pain in their butt when they're on their period.
As a period begins, endometrial cells break down associated with a rise in hormones known as prostaglandins.
These prostaglandins can cause inflammation and contraction, and in some women it leads to contraction of the muscles in the bowel and rectum resulting in the butt pain/cramps experienced during menstruation.
Although not overly common, these cramps may also be a sign of endometriosis. If there are endometrial implants in the rectum, you will naturally have discomfort there when you're on your period.
If you regularly experience butt cramps, it's a good idea to check in with your doctor about them to rule out other possible causes of the pain.
