Reason #23 for being a Muslim: Every good deed is an act of worship. Dr. Shabir Ally says that in Islam, even what people consider to be mundane acts like eating and sleeping are seen as good deeds that give us rewards. Our whole existence is for the service of God, so all of life comes under the purview of devotion to God, including working and studying, especially if done with the right intention, avoiding the evils associated with them and following good practices. Muslims don’t have to choose between work and worship or playtime or prayer time, and that means we’re holistic people who can do good for ourselves and for society while still worshiping God.
