The Drakensberg region in South Africa was one of the last refuges for the San as they were pushed out of the territories by the Bantu tribes and then the European settlers.
As the San had no written language our best insight into their way of life is the thousands of Rock Art sites in the caves of the Drakensberg that they left behind.
There are over 30 000 such sites, most of which are kept secret or are protected to spare them from vandalism.
These beautiful and intricate depictions on the rock are incredibly old and precious and need to be seen to be appreciated.
We take the opportunity to visit one such site during our visit to Royal Natal National Park, and were totally blown away by the whole experience. we highly recommend booking this tour when you are visiting the area.
We hope you enjoy the video.
