Metelkova mesto is an alternative cultural centre that developed from a squat in former army barracks and became one of best known attractions in Ljubljana.

Here can see different artistic practices and events. A number of clubs host regular programme of concerts, club nights, art performances and exhibitions.

Metelkova mesto is a melting pot for various subcultures and a meeting point of all kinds of people. That is why there are events on every night of the week.

The former Austro-Hungarian army barracks were built in the late 19th century. It got squated (illegally occupied) in 1993 by volunteers following the initiative to stop the abandoned army complex from being pulled down. After that Metelkova mesto got transformed by numerous little slovenian artists and is still in ongoing constant change.
