Behindwoods Gold Medals 2017 presents Varalaxmi the Best Actor in a Lead Role(Female) for performance in Tharai Thappattai. She received the award from Director Bala who directed Thara Thappatai. Bala described Varalaxmi as the most hardworking actress he has worked with so far in his career.He gave an example when a shooting incident caused her collar bone to break & told that Tamil cinema should be proud to have her.

Varalaxmi thanked her director Bala & called her mom on stage to thank her. She also emphasized the genuineness of Behindwoods.
