Established banks are not widely available in the rural regions and that is whereas an alternative, agent banking services work to minimize the distance of banks and their services from the financially underprivileged population. In 2011, only 31.74% of the total adult population in Bangladesh used some form of financial service. Agent banking has played an important role in increasing the availability of financial services to the people of Bangladesh and in 2018, the number increased to 47%.
