This is a lecture given at the congress "Reconstructing the Dynamics of the Emergence of Islam - Possibilities and Limits", which took place on July 18-20, 2022, at the 'Forschungskolleg Humanwissenschaften' in Bad Homburg, to mark the completion of the Linked Open Tafsir project. The Center for Islamic Studies at Goethe University in Frankfurt and the Berlin Institute for Islamic Theology at Humboldt University in Berlin organized the congress. The German Federal Ministry of Education and Research, the Mercator Foundation, and The Academy for Islam in Research and Society (AIWG) all contributed to the project and the congress.
