''We arrived in Kuwait in late February, early March of 2003, took part with the 3rd ID (Infantry Division) in ground invasion into Iraq, fought battles in Nasiriyah, Samawah, Najaf, all the way up to Baghdad. From there we've been conducting security and support operations with the First Armoured Division ever since. We've been responsible for the western area of Baghdad. I think we make a lot of progress and I think Iraq's future looks bright.''

STORYLINE:
The soldiers of the US Army task force 2/70 "Thunderbolt" 1st Armoured Division handed over responsibility for the western part of Baghdad to their newly arrived comrades from US Army 1st Cavalry Division on Tuesday.
The soldiers of 2/70 spearheaded the invasion of Iraq last year and fought their way up to Baghdad in the battles of Nasiriyah, Samawah and Najaf.
After spending nearly a year away from their homes, the soldiers will be heading home to their base at Fort Riley, Kansas.
Specialist Tavarance Jones from St Martinville, Louisiana, said he was pleased to be going home, and happy with the work he and his unit had done in Iraq.
