SPRING GROVE VILLAGE, Ohio (Angenette Levy) - Hundreds stood in the cold for hours, lining Spring Grove Ave. to pay their respects to Hamilton firefighter Patrick Wolterman and his family.
"It's hard. I can imagine the things his wife is going through. You know, Drew leaves every morning and every night he's working, I say be safe, please. That's all you can ask," said Corrie Bivens, whose boyfriend is a Cincinnati firefighter.
Mothers brought their children to pay their respects. Mark Miller of Bridgetown brought the American flag he displays on his house.
"The firefighters every day put their lives on the line and it's the least I could do to come out and show my support and respect," Miller said.
The flags waving and the signs made out of poster board and markers brought comfort to those firefighters watching as Engine 25 carried Patrick Wolterman's body to the cemetery gate.
"It is very difficult to bury one of our own but it's more of a consolation to us that we see the public out in full force to show their support." said Cincinnati firefighter Doug Stern.
The support has been overwhelming. The loved ones of firefighters passed along messages of support to Wolterman's family.
"If it were me I would know that he died doing something he loved and just know everyone in this city supports them and feels his loss, too," said Alison PosinskI.
