ZAZ:
Isabelle Geffroy (born 1 May 1980), known professionally as Zaz, is a French singer-songwriter who mixes jazzy styles, French variety, soul and acoustic. She is known for her single "Je veux", taken from her self-titled debut album, released on 10 May 2010.
In 1985, at the age of five, Isabelle Geffroy entered the conservatory of Tours. It was in the rue Auguste-Chevallier that Zaz made herself known and noticed, at the Chez Nello cabaret. She studied at the conservatory until the age of eleven, learning mainly music theory, violin, piano, guitar and choral singing.
She participates in many concerts and tours when in 2007, she responded to an ad on Internet from producer and songwriter Kerredine Soltani, who was looking for a new artist with a "hoarsely broken" voice. He writes her I want and finds her a production company and a publisher.
It's on May 10, 2010, that Zaz released her first album, of which she signed half of the titles. Also featured is the gypsy jazz song Je veux.
She was awarded the Chanson Révélation prize by the Charles-Cros Academy, the Victoire de la Musique for Song of the Year, as well as the European Border Breakers Awards (a prize rewarding new artists who are successful in countries other than their own). In January 2011, Je veux was voted “French favorite song of the year 2010”, while Zaz was voted “Artist of the year for the new upcoming singer” by internet users of the ParisMatch.com site.
The album also enjoyed great success in France: No. 1 in sales, it sold more than a million copies and was quickly certified as a diamond disc. The popularity of the singer then goes beyond French borders: she is nominated for the German Echo in the "International Revelation" category, wins the Félix for the most famous French-speaking Artist in Quebec and her album sells more 900,000 copies abroad.
In May 2013, Zaz released her second album, Recto Verso. The album sold more than 500,000 copies in France, thus offering the singer a second diamond disc, while export sales exceeded 300,000 copies. In November 2013, she received the Grand Prix for the Sacem repertoire for export.
