An unlicensed driver who seriously injured an elderly dog walker after losing control of his vehicle has avoided jail because a judge heard he suffered "karma" after shattering his skull and getting cancer.
Kallum Aish was speeding on a country road when he ploughed into Patricia Faulkner, 75, killing her Staffordshire bull terrier, Millie.
The grandmother-of-six, from Great Barr, Birmingham, suffered a broken leg and now has to be nursed by her 78-year-old disabled husband. She branded the suspended sentence "disgusting", adding that Aish had "effectively got away" with his "reckless" behaviour.
Aish, then 17, fled the scene of the crash in June 2020, but returned a week later after police released CCTV as a part of an appeal.
The footage showed a Renault Clio swerving across the lane and colliding with Mrs Faulkner, before disappearing into a bank of bushes.
