Ruapehu iwi Ngāti Rangi today initialled their Deed of Settlement with the Crown. The Central North Island iwi is set to get $17 million in financial compensation, the return of the Rotokura lake beds and other significant cultural sites, and the opportunity to purchase the Karioi forest. Ngāti Rangi chief negotiator Che Wilson says today's initialling marks the realisation of the iwi's dream. The document will now be taken back to Ngāti Rangi to be ratified in October.
