Always felt like there was something captivating about war photography?
Learn about war photography from Mads Nissen, the winner of "World Press Photo of the Year". In his masterclass, Mads gives an exclusive insight into what it means to be a war photographer and why it's fundamental still to this day.
Mads Nissen is a Danish documentary and war photographer. He has worked with many social and contemporary issues such as homophobia, the covid crisis and documented the various conflicts across the world, such as the Civil War in Columbia and Libya. Mads uses the medium of war photography as his way of fighting for peace.
His interest in photography started when he was around 18 years old while living in Venezuela. More than 20 years later, he's still looking to share more stories, show the struggles in other people's lives, and present humanity in different ways.
With war photography, Mads aims to create an understanding of humanitarian values, often in active combat zones and places under crisis. Mads' primary motivation is always to tell the story rather than the thrill of it.
Some of his best work includes "Amazonas" – a 7-year long journey into exploring the wilderness of the Amazon Forest. Other outstanding work includes shots taken from Columbia where Mads covers the civilians' fight for peace, history, and culture of violence in his book "We are indestructible".
Other pieces of Mads' include showcasing homophobia in Russia and other humanitarian neglects from the corners of the world.
