The French composer and pianist Louis Aubert (1877-1968) studied and taught at the Paris Conservatoire. Fauré was one of his teacher there, and he had been the boy soprano soloist at the premiere of Fauré's requiem earlier. Some of his orchestral works are available on CD, but he is little-played, and copyright restrictions arising from his longevity mean that any large scale renaissance is unlikely. Most of his music was for the stage, and he wrote a once-popular fairy tale opera, 'La fôret bleu'. His best-known piano work is 'Sillages', One of his claims to fame is that he premiered, and was the dedicatee of Ravel's 'Valses Nobles et Sentimentales' in 1911. This attractive piece was published in 1902.
