Dr. Terry Hanson is an Aquaculture Economist at Auburn University’s School of Fisheries, Aquaculture, and Aquatic Sciences in Auburn, Alabama.
For over thirty years, Terry has conducted research on various aspects of fish culture production costs to include the interrelated effects of fish genetics, nutrition, disease, water quality, and value chain analysis. Species primarily include catfish, tilapia, and shrimp grown in ponds, raceways, and recirculating aquaculture systems.
From 1998-2008 he conducted economic research and extension activities related to catfish, hybrid striped bass, freshwater prawn, and crayfish industries at Mississippi State University in the Agricultural Economics Department.
He has a Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics and Natural Resource Economics (1998), a Masters of Agriculture in Production Agriculture (1985), and a Master of Science in Fisheries and Aquaculture (1984) from Auburn University.
Terry was a Peace Corps Volunteer in the Republic of Niger, West Africa from 1987-1980 where he performed fishery biology and cooperative services for their Department of Fishery and Forestry.
He has over 75 peer-reviewed journal articles, over 110 popular articles, 104 published abstracts, over 285 scientific/professional presentations, and 12 book chapters.
