The journey from the National Defence Academy (NDA) to the Indian Military Academy (IMA) is a four-year process that includes training at both academies:
NDA
Cadets train at the NDA for three years, which is divided into two terms per year. During this time, cadets earn a bachelor's degree and develop a sense of camaraderie and belonging. After graduating, cadets are sent to their respective training academies for one year of training.
IMA
Cadets undergo training at the IMA for one year if they are technical graduates, ex-NDA, or ex-ACC. Direct entry cadets train for one and a half years. During the Passing Out Parade, parents place stars on their cadets' shoulders to symbolize their commissioning as officers. The newly commissioned Lieutenants then go to their assigned units to begin their military.
