Two skills I've learnt from Aabria Iyengar
Aabria has played D&D since 2015. Often, as the only woman or person of color at the table, her experiences weren't always positive. This has made her prioritize creating a safe space for her players as a Game Master.
Her vibrant style blends humor, drama, and suspense, with a strong focus on character development and emotional journeys.
First, don't be afraid to bend the rules if it enhances the game. It's your table; be fearless. By adapting to the needs of the moment, Aabria keeps her games engaging, frequently catching players off guard with unexpected laughs.
Second, ask the players what holds their interest. It's tempting as a GM to control the narrative, but asking players what interests them can reveal fresh perspectives. When you give them space, you'll find players have strong voices too.
Both work magic in my Might & Mercy podcast, every time.
