An interactive discussion on gender-responsive private sector policies and practices during COVID-19 and its impact on the female workforce: COVID-19 has changed the world in more ways than one. As we move into figuring out what the new normal will entail, we are witnessing that the current work-from-home situation has created additional multiple challenges for women, not in the least by increasing their workload and perpetuating their traditional role of caregiving. However, the increased work from home situation also provides for shaping a new narrative of sharing household work and caregiving for children and the elderly between men and women. It is critical that we encourage such behaviors as part of the "new normal" so that they do not disappear once the restrictions related to COVID-19 lift and people return to office-based work routines.
The UNDP Bangkok Regional Hub is showcasing how companies in the region are supporting women employees helping create new narratives to recognize and redistribute women’s unpaid work, raising awareness, and providing support to contrast gender-based violence, supporting companies along their supply chains.
