I would say this is the most beautiful hike in the Azores.
Another name for São Jorge is Dragon Island, because the central mountain range looks like a dragon's ridge.
Serra do Topo, the starting point on the ridge of the dragon, can be reached by car.
If I were making a film about São Jorge, I would call it 50 Shades of Green.
The descent from the mountain ends at Fajã da Caldeira do Santo Cristo. This place is famous thanks to the unique clams, living in the lake. In many Azorean restaurants you will find Clams from Caldeira de Santo Cristo on the menu.
After a 10 km hike, you will arrive at Fajã dos Cubres. Тhe trail ends near the church of Nossa Senhora de Lourdes, where you can call a taxi and come back to pick up your car.
