Democracy has been on a downhill path in the last decade, with developing countries shifting more towards totalitarian regimes and voter participation in first world countries steadily declining. But there are hopes that this trend can be reversed. Annika Jacobsen tells us how a personal experience during the 2016 presidential election inspired her to help build a blockchain based voting system, how it could cut election costs in half while at the same time making them safer more transparent. As a brand strategist and marketing director, Annika Jacobsen’s passion lies in helping thought leaders and startups—with important messages to share—implement new and innovative ways of getting the word out about their visions for the future. Her curiosity and enthusiasm for blockchain technology compelled her to get involved in the industry and understand it on a deeper level. She recently joined Agora Technologies, here in Switzerland, which is on a mission to create secure and transparent elections around the world.
