My viewing experience of Last Year at Marienbad was heavily filtered by Jordan Peterson's lecture on Adam and Eve. The movie not only follows the idea of breaking film rules (which is characteristic of the identity of French New Wave Cinema) but is one of the most beautiful examples of Tragedy of Man on screen. A cryptic movie like this starts making a lot of sense and revealing itself when filtered through this eye. Hope you enjoyed the essay!
