Hi, my name is Mark from AnyPond.com, your trusted resource in the UK for ponds and water features. Today, we're talking about the big topic of wildlife ponds. It could be a case if you've got a garden and you've just moved into a property and you want to encourage wildlife to your garden. Now if you think about trying to encourage wildlife into your garden, if you've got a garden pond or some water in your garden, you're going to have double the amount of wildlife in your garden itself.
If you've got the sound of water, it will double it again so you can have actually four times more wildlife in your garden with the sound of water in your garden. Not a lot of people think about having ponds for it to be a case of a place to rest, it could be a case of a place to drink. Most people that I speak to, they actually maintain their pond for wildlife.
They've tried to keep fish and the herons come down and they've eaten the fish and they think, "Mark, I just want to keep the pond going just for the wildlife. I love the frogs and I love to educate the grandchildren when they come around." Wildlife ponds, most of them in the garden scenario, are actually man made so they're a recreated habitat.
It could be a case if you've got a fish pond then you think, "I can't keep fish or I don't want fish. I want to create the wildlife," you can't just take out fish and then it's a wildlife pond. It doesn't happen that way. You've got to actually provide a lot of things whether it's a safe place for the wildlife to hide, something for the wildlife to eat, you do need to create that pond for the wildlife itself.
What I'll do is I'll actually create some more videos about frog ponds, dragonfly ponds, even ponds for birds. It could be mammals that you're trying to encourage or foxes or something else to the garden. That's why you want a drinking area for the wildlife. There's a quick thing about wildlife ponds. It's a massive subject.
