The tourist season in Saranda, Albania starts to hit its stride in early April, and we were amazed to watch the transformation of Saranda from a sleepy beach town in early February to the ultimate beach party destination.
We didn't want to wait for the mini-bus to take us over the mountains from Gjirokaster to Saranda, so we hired a private taxi for a few Lek more to drive us. And we're glad we did! We were able to take in the fantastic views of the mountains, and the driver was kind enough to slow down as we took pictures of the flocks of sheep roaming the hills.
Once in Saranda, we went back to all of our favorite restaurants and fruit vendors for delicious food and even better hugs. And, as responsible tax-paying adults, we made a visit to the dentist. Ohana Dent was one of the best dentist experiences we've had in all our years of travel! Five stars!
We were sad to leave Saranda again but excited for the next leg of our travels: the route from Saranda to Vlorë, which is one of the most beautiful bus journeys in the country!
