The Legacy (Intro) | Dr. Srimix & Klasikhz

It’s incredible how some moments during a creative process turn out the way they do. In January of 2016, fellow DJ & producer, Dr. Srimix, sent me a Carnatic vocal sample called “Mohum Ennum.” We were performing together in Philly in three days and decided to drop a surprise mixtape for our fans. The goal was to put together a 10-15 minute mashup of several Trap, Bollywood, and Bhangra segments. Srimix sent over a Moombahton idea and, all of a sudden, I realized this would be the perfect intro to the mixtape. Immediately, I went into my sample library and pieced together some tribal drums that gave the Moombahton a more Hip Hop vibe. Then, I thought about KRS-One, an MC that has always been underappreciated. Piecing together a verse from him gave us the perfect segue to track #2. We released the track overnight and, shortly thereafter, Poonam & Priyanka recorded a video showcasing their choreography. With this viral video out, there were several opportunities globally to showcase this record. The track was used in a coffee commercial in Chennai (Tanjara), a Zee TV segment, and even the man Hrithik Roshan used it for his IIFA promo!

Iqwak Bhurji, better known as Klasikhz, is a prominent DJ, remix artist, and producer.
