Take a drive north of Kampong Cham, past the dirt roads and the dense greenery. For an hour and twenty minutes you’ll see nothing much but the Mekong River and the Han Chey Mountain; but, if you’re patient enough, at the end of your journey, on an unnamed road, you’ll reach the Black Dragon Durian Farm — a large sprawling area filled with durian, rambutan and mangosteen farms.
Surrounded by rubber plantations, Black Dragon Durian Farm (Neak Khmao in Khmer) is probably only accessible to tourists with the help of a friendly local or guide, and a pretty adventurous spirit. The farmers here speak little English, and finding a way to call ahead will prove near-impossible. It’s definitely not a tourist trap.
But once there, you can relax in the beautiful gardens, watch the farmers at work, and then enjoy the tasty fruits. There is also a great view overlooking the fields and forests.
Watch our video, as our reporters travel out to the farms and take in all that they have to offer.
