A common myth that I wanted to bust about traveling on points is about earning all those points. When you hear that I’ve earned over a million points, the common person will assume that means I’ve had to spend a million dollars, or even maybe hundreds of thousands of dollars to get there. Uh no. Not possible. I’m a librarian and my husband is a new realtor, and we’ve lived the Dave Ramsey life for 15 years. We spend $2500 a month in bills. So spending hundreds of thousands of dollars, let alone a million, is not even possible!
So how have we amassed over 1.3 million points in 2024?
By leveraging credit card sign up bonuses and referral bonuses!
Between my husband and I we opened up 7 credit cards in 2024, so 7 big sign up bonuses of 60-100,000 points each, plus all the referral points referring each other back and forth to those cards. Up until 2 months ago, the referral bonuses for Chase Business Ink cards were 40,000, so that was a LOT of points there! For those 7 cards, we had a total of $55k in spending. Definitely not hundreds of thousands of dollars!
