The festival is held for three days during the first weekend of February, marking the end of the cool season. During this time, the streets of Chiang Mai come alive with colourful and fragrant flower displays. This Flower Festival Parade is one of the highlights of the festival , which is a must-see event.The Flower Festival Parade is a grand spectacle that takes place early February on Saturday morning.
The parade stretches along Charoen Muang Road, from the Nawarat Bridge to the train station. At 4 pm, the parade begins its journey up Tha Phae Road, passing through Tha Phae Gate and following the moat around to Suan Buak Hat. The parade moves at a slow pace, allowing the spectators to take in the beautiful floats and traditional Thai dances. Local marching bands and drumming groups add to the festive atmosphere, while the participants hand out flowers to the audience.
Another exciting aspect of the Chiang Mai Flower Festival is the Miss Chiang Mai Flower Festival competition. Many of the candidates for the pageant are seen atop the floats and carriages during the parade. In the late afternoon, the competition to choose the Flower Festival Queen begins in earnest. As the judges deliberate, loud rock music and drinks keep the party going into the evening. The festival culminates with the announcement of the Flower Festival Queen, bringing the festivities to a close.
