Every now and then, a new product comes out that grabs my attention and this is one of them. As many of you already know, I am a big fan of canvas tents and in particular the classic Baker tent. The only issues with canvas in my mind, are the shear weight and bulk, outdoor gear manufacturer OneTigris have addressed this issue with the Tigersden tent.
Made from 75D PU Coated nylon, this tent weighs a very respectable 4.3kg (less than 3kg if you leave the poles at home and cut your own from hazel once in camp). It packs small and can accommodate up to four adults with ample seating space under the porch. Loads of ventilation in the door and back panel make it ideal for summer use. The other huge bonus about this tent is the price tag - around £160 makes it very good value and well within the reach of a family looking for something different with that lovely nostalgic ‘frontier’ style.
A note of warning about naked flames! Traditional baker tents were designed to be heated with an open fire under or in front of the porch area and being canvas, that was reasonably safe to do. The OneTigris Tigersden tent is made from Nylon and NOT fire resistant, it is designed to have the feel of a Baker tent and not to be used with an open fire - please observe the usual care that you would with any other nylon tent.
If you are looking for a vintage style, family sized alternative to a traditional Baker tent that is light enough to carry and light on your wallet, this might be worth a look.
Thanks for watching!
