Bryan explains why a soil test is necessary and how it impacts the type of concrete slab that will be required.
Once your soil has been analysed, it will be classed and a rating applied which will allow an engineer to determine the right type of slab for your block.
About Soil Testing
----------------------------------------------------------------
This is the first step that any builder must take to determine the slab type that's needed to support your home before construction is commenced.
This is not up to the builder to decide - it's a scientific process by a qualified and independent engineer which requires a physical inspection of your land.
During this inspection, an engineer will take 2-3 bore holes from your block (about 2-3 metres deep) to get a soil sample. That soil sample is then taken to the lab and analyzed over a 10 day period.
Engineers are testing the soil to see how it reacts to moisture and dryness. The result from this will determine the rating or class of your soil (there are 7 different soil classes). Once that rating is determined, that allows our engineer to design the correct type of slab for the soil on your selected block.
