How may broken things do you have lying around? How hard is it to find a decent repair place? I usually have at least one thing hanging around the studio waiting to get fixed.

As it’s technical Tuesday, here’s me having a go at fixing one of my microphones - my original Rode NT1 that has been silent for at least a year.
.
On carefully opening the mic, I discovered that the circuit board was supposed to be attached to the bottom of the casing and then a disconnected cable revealed itself.
.
A little bit of soldering and then re-assembly and it was sorted. It’s surprising how often a fix can be as simple as a disconnected wire - basic soldering skills are a must for an audio engineer.
.
Next time you have something that isn’t working, it’s worth a quick look to see if it’s a simple fix. Of course, be very careful with anything that is mains powered - probably best left to the professionals.
