Participants will increase their understanding of trauma and how it specifically affects kinship families. They will also increase their understanding of best practice of working with clients or families who have experienced trauma. Participants will examine the impact of trauma on the professional and how their trauma can affect their professional relationship with their clients. Many of our families have experienced trauma through the child welfare system in which we are practicing therefore, participants will examine how as child welfare professionals we can best work with families who are traumatized by the system. We’ll identify strategies to build successful partnerships between professionals and the kinship families.
