Mike Fossum paid a visit to his namesake school, Michael E. Fossum Middle School, on the first day back for the spring semester on January 5, 2022. Fossum, a 1976 graduate of McAllen High, is the only person from the Rio Grande Valley to have flown into outer space. He has shared his inspirational story with students on many occasions. He is now a Vice President and COO with Texas A&M University at Galveston.
