In this rare and historic footage from February 19, 2005, former U.S. President Jimmy Carter and first lady Rosalynn Carter (now both deceased) attended the commissioning of the USS Jimmy Carter; the Navy's newest and most advanced attack submarine. This Seawolf-class submarine, named in honour of the 39th President, was designed for stealth and intelligence missions. The ceremony took place at the naval base in Groton, Connecticut, marking a historic moment for both the U.S. Navy and President Carter, who is the only U.S. president to have qualified in submarines.
