Try this simple science experiment for kids using candy canes submerged in different liquids - water, oil, and vinegar.

▶️ How to do candy cane science:
Step 1: Place a candy cane in each of the three glass containers.

Step 2: Fill one container with baby oil.

Step 3: Fill the next with vinegar.

Step 4: Fill the final container with water.

Step 5: Observe what is the same or different for each type of liquid.

▶️ How candy cane science works:
Vinegar and water quickly start dissolving the candy cane, but not the baby oil. Water particles can easily dissolve the sugars and dyes of the candy cane, but the baby oil can't. When you zoom in, you can even see the dyes being dissolved in the water and falling down from the edge of the candy cane.

This experiment also allows you to easily modify what you're testing—the temperature of the water will drastically change how fast the candy cane is off. You can even test if adding sugar to the water before placing the candy cane in will make any difference.
