Bob’s Watches COO and lead buyer Carol Altieri has amassed an impressive collection of rare Stella, and other specialty dial watches over the years. She is now ready to release them to the public in an exclusive collaboration with Gwyneth Paltrow’s lifestyle brand, Goop.
WHAT ARE STELLA DIALS?
Stella dials are a product of the 70s, 80s, and early 90s. They were produced by the Swiss dial-making company Stella, hence the popular nickname, and were even advertised by Rolex as “Lacquered Stella” dials.
Many believe that the Stella dials were produced for the market in the Middle East and primarily for the Day-Date collection. However, there are instances of other models in the Rolex catalog sporting the vibrant, glossy dials.
THE COLLECTION
Rolex Day-Date President 1803 – Green Stella Diamond Dial
What makes the example of the Day-Date we have here so special is that it features a stunning white gold finish instead of yellow gold. Additionally, it displays the time on a striking green Stella dial via glittering diamond hour markers.
Rolex Day-Date President 18038 – Coral Stella Dial
You might recognize the rich coral-red hue on this Stella dial Rolex from the current Rolex Oyster Perpetual collection. The dial color was recently revived to celebrate the original Stella dials, which has brought renewed attention to the unique Day-Date presented in the Goop collab.
Rolex Day-Date President 1803 – Oxblood Stella Dial
Oxblood is one of the least flashy Stella dial colors. It is also one of the most sought-after on the secondary market. We aren’t surprised because it’s timeless, sophisticated, and versatile.
Rolex Day-Date 1803 – Coral Stella Dial
This edition of the famous Rolex Presidential Day-Date will take your breath away for many reasons. First and foremost is the stunning Coral dial in a vibrant lacquered hue.
Second is the pink gold finish, a metal option we rarely see on the vintage Day-Date. Lastly, this edition of the Day-Date wears on the 5-piece link Jubilee bracelet instead of the more common three-link President bracelet.
Rolex Lady-Datejust 6917 – Oxblood Stella Dial
We have another rare Stella dial, this time on the Lady-Datejust instead of the Day-Date. While many Stella dial Rolex watches command prices breaking the $100k mark, this women’s Rolex is relatively affordable at under $10k.
SPECIALTY DIALS
Rolex Day-Date 118238 – Blue Vignette Dial
The vignette dial is distinguished by a blue gradient hue that is lighter in the middle and darker around the dial’s edges. It’s captivating and classy. The Day-Date ref. 118238 takes the dial to another level with sparkling diamond hour markers.
Rolex Day-Date 18238 – Black Onyx Dial
Stone dials typically don’t have hour markers. This design element allows the true beauty of the stone finish to shine while preventing the dial from becoming too cluttered. The pitch-black onyx stone dial is a stunning example, which Rolex has paired with a yellow gold finish for a sharp contrast.
Rolex Datejust 16238 – White Index Dial
The Datejust ref. 16238 keeps it simple and classy with a white dial decorated with elegant index hour markers, matching yellow gold hands, and a black railroad chapter ring.
Rolex Date 15037 – Matte and Sunburst Blue Dials
Carol’s collection also features two fascinating editions of the yellow gold Date ref. 15037 – one with a sunburst blue dial and one with a matte blue dial. Both are decorated with diamonds.
Rolex Lady-Datejust 6917 – Coral and Tiger’s Eye Dials
Ref. 6917 is a vintage Lady-Datejust in yellow gold. The Bob’s Watches/Goop collaboration features two stunning examples of the vintage watch with stone dials – one with a coral stone dial and one with a tiger’s eye stone dial.
ROLEX COCKTAIL
Lastly, we have two gorgeous examples of the cult favorite – the vintage Rolex Cocktail watch. One features a unique hidden dial tucked underneath a diamond-encrusted outer case. The other example features a remarkable filigree mesh bracelet and a diamond bezel.
