Hi everybody, my name is Andy with etrailer.com. And today we are going to take a look at Coughlin's 21 inch long blade folding saw. If you're looking for a handy portable folding saw that is lightweight yet relatively rugged, either for camping or for work around your yard. This might be the perfect item for you. Let's take a closer look at it today. This folding saw has an anodized aluminum frame that is not only lightweight, but will resist rust and corrosion as well.
I have noticed in taking a look at the saw and kind of putting it through its paces, the finish can scuff quite easily. So, whereas the aluminum is rugged and lightweight. It can, this finished can scuff quite easily. So, I do want you to be aware of that. Obviously, this is what it looks like in its folded form.
And so while we're in this form, lemme just give you a few measurements here to consider. Going across we're sitting right at about 21 inches long, 21 inches long, and then at its widest point, which is right about here, we are sitting at about two and five, eights at its widest point. Now, I'm gonna show you what this looks like, the steps to take to go ahead and unfold the saw. And so what you would do first is you would take this arm and swing it all the way down and then take this handle, this tensioning handle and kind of open it up just about like that. And then there is a setting pin right here.
Let me see if I can get a closeup of that real quick right here that holds the blade securely in the frame. So, there are just a few instructions here that remind you to loosen up this blade. And so once that blade is loosened, it will just slip out. And then it goes through some of these openings here in the frame, for it to slide through. And then in the tensioning handle here, there is a pin that you match it up with and you put the first hole of this blade in this pin.
And again, I'm gonna see if I can give you a close-up of that, right here you can see a pin that the blade will actually attach to, it's threaded to kind of give it a little bit of a grip. And then once that is on there, you just push this handle all the way down and it locks blade in place, now it does feel flimsy at first, so when you have the blade out, it's kind of swinging all over the place. And then when you, but put it in the in the slot here or this arm, it's like, it feels kind of flimsy. But once this tensioning handle is locked down, the blade is secure and the blade is good for all types of wood. It is sharp on the touch and I think that would get through just about any tasks that you put it through that would meet the qualifications of a use of a, of a folding wood saw such as this. It's probably a good idea, once you have the saw open to close up that setting pin, just to prevent any, any way of losing it. You do have the ability to store other blades in here as well, so again, this is a wood blade, but you can store a blade that would be like for meat cutting, that would store in here as well. There is a pin that is right here that allows enough room to hold more than one blade. And so the blades would just fold up in here and then you would choose the one that you would like to use for whatever task you're going to be using it for. I'm gonna see if I can fit this in my closeup again, just to give you some further measurements, probably the best way to measure this in this form would be diagonal. So, just to get an idea of the diagonal length here, once the saw is fully open, we are sitting a little over 21 inches diagonally, so, a little over 21 inches diagonally. And then the overall height, when it's fully opened, let's start from here, it looks like we're sitting right at nine and a half inches. So, nine and a half inches of overall height. Now, I'm gonna give you, walk you through the steps again on how to close this. And again, you just reverse all the steps. You remove this blade here from the pin in the tensioning handle, swing it back around, and then I am going to loosen the setting pin. That is essential to make sure that the blade is tight and snug in the frame and it is, and then fold this tensioning handle up, fold this back around, and we are back in our folded form. Now, if you're looking for a more portable saw, even smaller than something like this, may I recommend to you, Coghlan's Sierra Saw their Sierra Saw is a seven inch blade and it's more of a handsaw, you can find that on our website, item number CG29VR. Well that concludes our look today at Coug
