Going through security at a Canadian airport with a service dog

If you are travelling with a service animal through pre-board screening you don’t need to remove your service animal’s harness but you will be asked to remove any carrying bags or pouches from the animal so they can be screened through the x-ray.

You will also be provided with the option of:
- Going through the Walk Through Metal Detector (WTMD) with your service animal; or
- Bypassing the WTMD and being searched with a Hand Held Metal Detector (HHMD); or
- Bypassing the WTMD and being physically searched.

At any time you may request to undergo screening in a private search area for you and your service animal. Your search will consist of a physical search (or ‘pat-down’) in a private search room.
The screening officer will visually inspect your service animal and its harness.
