Enjoy this 17-minute production of SRY 4501 in charge of TVRM's Summerville Steam Special 2023. We got the train in various scenery and locations along the ex. Central Of Georgia route. The line is now owned by Gennesee and Wyoming railways and operates under the Chattooga And Chickamauga Railway.
Today, we ventured southwest into the city of Chattanooga, Tennessee. Chattanooga is home to the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum, which hosts a 9-hour round trip steam excursion from Grand Junction station in Lake Hills, TN, to the fall festival in Summerville, GA. We chased the train from the museum grounds all the way to summerville where we would break from the chase and head north. The infamous SRY 4501 would be in charge of todays train.
SRY 4501 is an M2 Makido type locomotive built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1911. It was retired from the Southern in 1948 and then worked for the Kentucky and Tennessee Railroad in Stearns, KY. It was then purchased by the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum and has become the whole reason for the museum's existence today.
