PM: YPG responsible for Ankara bomb
Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu says the YPG terror group carried out the car bombing in Ankara on Wednesday night. It targeted a military vehicle, killing 28 people and wounding 61 others. Davutoglu says the YPG carried out the terror attack in co-operation with the PKK. The YPG is the Syrian branch of the PKK, which is a terror group based in Turkey’s southeast. Davutoglu said that the attacker was a Syrian national and YPG member and that police have detained nine people in relation.
Delivery of aid begins
At least 100 trucks have left the capital Damascus to deliver aid to besieged areas in the country. On Wednesday, the Syrian regime agreed to allow aid into seven besieged towns. UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon says the deliveries are “an incredibly important first step.” Last week, international powers to a ‘cessation of hostilities’ in Syria. It’s scheduled to begin this week.
Maduro hikes oil prices
President Nicolas Maduro has raised the price of gas from one cent a litre to 60. He called the increase ‘a necessary action to balance things.’ Maduro says he ‘takes responsibility’ for the hike, which is the first in 20 years. He’s also devalued the official exchange rate for the bolivar. Venezuela is already suffering from extreme food shortage and inflation.
Interspecies mating 100K years ago
Scientists say people and Neanderthals began mating around 100-thousand years ago - based on the discovery of Neanderthal remains in the Altai Mountains, with Homo Sapien DNA. That’s 50-thousand years earlier than what they previously believed. It also means humans may have migrated out of Africa much earlier than previously thought.
