In 1954, the Tudor Submariner joined its sister, the Rolex Submariner, in the burgeoning dive watch marketplace. With a case and bracelet made by Rolex, the Tudor Submariner 7922 instantly boasted credibility with divers and adventurers. For 2024, the possible return of the Tudor Submariner coincides with the 70th anniversary of the model. Will the ultimate Tudor dive watch join the Black Bay and Pelagos in the collection. The 1954 Tudor Submariner reference 7922 combined a customer caliber with a case, clasp, and bracelet made by Rolex. Rolex founder Hans Wilsdorf created Tudor in 1926 as a more affordable companion brand to the primary business. However, Tudor watches have become as collectible as Rolex through the decades of chronographs, dive watches, pilot's watches, and dress watch models. The 2012 launch of the Tudor Heritage Black Bay fully rehabilitated the watchmaker for the modern era, and the 2013 re-launch of Tudor in the United States supercharged its sales.

Although the Black Bay and Pelagos already form the backbone of Tudor's dive watch portfolio, room remains for a true vintage re-edition. The 2023 Black Bay 54 harks back to the first 7922, but the new watch's dial is a tribute to the 1960s and 70s rather than the 1950s. Room remains for a highly faithful Submariner 7922 re-edition with a 1950s dial, era-appropriate text, and even a plexiglas crystal.
