This weekend would see a double feast of LMS power depart Derby Station on the final weekend of September. On the 24th, 46233 Duchess Of Sutherland is seen on the Yorkshire Coronation to Scarborough, where the Duchess is seen negotiating the curve towards Spondon. Just one mile down the line we capture the train passing through Borrowash, two angles capture the action.
Back out again on Sunday and this time on my own, I headed to Spondon station to see 46115 'Scots Guardsman' head a commemorative train to the seaside town of Skegness, which was the 125th anniversary of children from Derbyshire being given the chance to have seaside breaks in the east coast town. Until at least the late 1950s, the journey was made by train to the Derbyshire Children's Holiday Centre, leaving from Friar Gate station. Also, The train will be carrying around 400 passengers and profits from the trip will go towards an attempt to raise extra money to allow more children to have breaks at the seaside. Currently, 450 disadvantaged children each year are given a five-day break between Easter and the end of October. It costs £250,000 a year to run the centre and it is totally reliant on public donations.
A great weekend of steam in my neck of the woods and glad to have some decent weather too ! I hope you enjoy the video.
