Director Hayao Miyazaki has said that most of his movies start production without a finished script, and Spirited Away was no exception. Miyazaki lets the script come to him naturally as he storyboards the film, and Spirited Away began production before he ever finished working on the storyboards, meaning that the script was also incomplete and didn’t have an ending!
