At the English College in Rome, Martyrs' Day is celebrated today to commemorate the many English martyrs who gave their lives for their faith during the Protestant Reformation. This feast is marked by a special evening of veneration of their relics at the college. During the dark days of the English Reformation in the 16th century, the Venerable English College was founded in Rome to form young English Catholic men discerning the priesthood and to prepare them for the dangers of returning to their homeland to serve the persecuted Catholics in England.
