Aquarium Vieja cichlids are some of the most colorful fish in our hobby. I traded some floating water lettuce for this fish. My first initial thoughts were that the fish was a psycho.. but he’s not aggressive at all. Have you kept Vieja Cichlids before?

The fish that were sent to you were from Richard Brice. Aka tarmack. He pumps massive ebjds yes and they look great but between me and Peter Gardner from Australia and a few other breeders we are not happy with his ebjd breeding practices because we believe he imbreds. Young ebjds look great even when imbred.
But as they age that's when you start seeing the issues. Unrelated super clean water and by themselves they will look the way I have them. It's not for everyone. Personally I think the electric pink is a genetic disaster and only looks good when in juvie stages. I have seen a few adults but they just look like a washed out ebjd basically.
Would never use electric pink also mislabeled platinums to breed with. Too much dilution of Gene's. You want the secrets I will tell you what I know from shear experience and learned from Peter Gardner. And you know what he has and has produced. Only thing is I am in the usa ny. Long island. Not update like Richard Brice aka tarmack.
That is the demographic for this group. Several other groups l administer have a much higher ratio of men to women from Saltwater groups, live culture, predator fish and monster fish. Even a very large a popular betta group has more men than women: 59% men, 41% women.
My mom is the reason I’m into goldfish. We had one that she won at the fair when I was 3 or so. Then she set up an aquarium for it and we got to watch it swim and do it’s thing. It lived a long time till someone put bread in the tank and it died. Then we didn’t have anything in a tank till us kids were like 9. We had a betta. He lived for 4 years in a gigantic mason jar dad had from way back in the day.
We put a little heater in it and stuck a pothos in it and he seemed really happy. We did water changes like twice a week. Life happened and dad died. Mom and I moved to Texas and started a frog tank with albino clawed frogs. We had them for 4 years and had to give them up when we moved. Now I’m building a pond for my one single comet goldfish. It seems to be going well.
But it was not ment as an attack on anyone personally. Just an idea that a study in the uk suggested and I saw some sort of a possibility for this answer. Will it be for the majority of men now? Im not sure it is, not the case is our household here either. I can for example suggest that when I met my wife she had no hobbies though. She wasn’t allowed to in her previous relationship. It cost money, took time away from caring for her ex and their daughter so he didn’t allow her to have hobbies and stuff. Is that right? No but just the case in some situations.
I'd be curious if it has to do with the type of fish people own. In Betta exclusive groups I see mostly younger women there. I don't know if it has something to do with space of tank, preference for specific fish, or having a disproportionate amount of time doing other things causing lower tech low maintenance preferences. I'd be curious how many of the women were mothers, since that was a topic that came up a lot in those groups. I'd like to see more women in groups with more type of fish.
Fish topic aside, I know in the gaming community women tend to join groups where there is already established women in it. Many won't reveal they are female unless they can hear and see other females in the group.
Because women are way too busy probably. Women are often the ones who run the family home and do the most with their kids etc. Men think they deserve the time away for various hobbies for all their harder work (supposedly). Any man who does pull his weight knows how hard it can be. I do the wife/mum thing, but add a job on top too, and university studies, I honestly don't know where I find the time, but I do because I love it. Got some new plants coming today, can't wait to add them to my scapes. I’ve never kept Vieja cichlids though.
