Hello and welcome! This is an incredibly gorgeous and rare Rolex Datejust ref 16030 from 1983 in excellent all original condition.
While the Rolex Datejust is a very common watch, the ref 16030 with engine turned bezel is a little less common. That being said, you’ll still find plenty of them, but not with this configuration; this has a very rare factory original black gilt dial with rose gold indices and hands, you practically never find these! The dial is in excellent condition, it’s super sharp, and has developed a rather unique ‘freckles’ patina, which give it an even more special look. It’s very subtle and soft, and really transforms the dial in a nice way. The lume has aged gorgeously, and is fully intact. The combination of the black dial with gilt writing, the rose gold indices with white markers on top, the rose gold hands, and then the perfect lume and beautiful freckles patina really make this into an incredibly gorgeous and unique piece. I doubt you’ll find (m)any others like this in the world.
The steel Oyster case is in excellent condition, with only very light signs of use. It’s very sharp, has been refinished at some point in the past, true to original Rolex form - the original edges are still crisp, and the satin brushing is like factory. The steel engine turned bezel is in super sharp condition as well. Both the crown and hesalite crystal are original.
The watch is a ref 16030, powered by a chronometer automatic cal 3035. Service history unknown, but it works well and keeps great time. It measures 36mm diameter without crown, and 44mm from lug to lug. It comes on its original steel Rolex jubilee bracelet, which is in excellent condition as well. The bracelet has mild stretch. It fits up to 7” wrists.
The case serial number is 8,250,xxx, which dates it to 1983. The bracelet clasp code is H9, which dates this to September of 1983.
The watch comes in an original period correct Rolex box. Not sure if this is the original box it was sold in, or a service box from Rolex (the info on this type of box is scarce). Either way, the box is worth $100-200 on its own already.
Really beautiful and unique piece in superb condition for its age. You won’t find any other like it! Check @kabawatch for more info
