ALL ABOUT SUMMER

Summer is a fun time of year. It comes after spring and before fall.

The months of summer are June, July, August and September. During summer, we have the warmest weather all year.

Hotter weather makes it a great time to have some yummy ice cream! Did you know the tallest ice cream cone was more than 10 feet tall?

People spend more time outdoors in the summer. This makes for a great time for cookouts. Some other popular summer foods are watermelon and barbecue.

Hotter weather also makes it a great time to go to the pool or the beach!

Some students go to school all year round, but most students are out of school for summer break.

We celebrate holidays in the summer. Independence Day is on July 4th and Labor Day on September 6th.

There is so much to do during this time of year. What do you like about summer?

Why is read aloud important?

"The U.S. Department of Education Commission on Reading took into account over 10,000 studies and found that the most important activity for building the skills and background for eventual success in reading is reading aloud to children."

At Mr. Corder’s Kid Books Read Aloud, I try and find the most exciting and interesting books for kids. Reading is one of the most important skills for children in preschool, kindergarten, first and second grade to develop (and in the higher grades of course). Read Aloud kids books are just another way to help students develop this love for reading!

I specialize in nonfiction books for kids, because they are rich in vocabulary and have engaging, real pictures for students to see! Nonfiction read aloud is a vital piece to any language arts curriculum! Be sure to check out my other non fiction read alouds for 1st grade, kindergarten, second grade and all grades!
