IMO coaches, mentors in the roadracing space focus too much on the mechanics of riding the bike fast and not enough on the mental aspects of what it means to ride a racing motorcycle fast.
It’s like they assume everyone has a solid foundation in sports psychology, at the very least, before showing up to race. I’ve found the opposite to be true. New racers with the wrong approach often go on to hurt themselves AND others, and it’s easy to act like it’s some kind of big mystery as to why that is.
It’s not.
IMO racing motorcycles as a novice club racer is a SURVIVAL SITUATION. I can almost guarantee that reading the Laurence Gonzalez book *DEEP SURVIVAL* and applying its lessons to what you do on track will make you a safer and faster racer. And even if it doesn’t, I bet it’ll be worth the read for its entertainment value alone. I’ll talk more about this fantastic book in future videos.
