"Hail to the Lord's Anointed " was written by James Montgomery, the Scottish hymn writer and reforming newspaper editor in 1821.

The tune is 'Crüger', written by the German composer Johann Crüger, probably published in 1644.

It is performed here by the Celebration Choir.
