A protestor has been arrested after spitting in the face of former Chilean president Michelle Bachelet while she was campaigning in the city of Arica. The young man, identified as an anthropology student, pushed his way towards her and launched his attack.
Bachelet shrugged off the incident and later addressed supporters saying: "Today, someone who does not understand what democracy is assaulted me. I want to tell you clearly, if they think they're going to intimidate me, they clearly don't know me."
The protester was unrepentent telling a reporter he had no regrets: "Not at all. She fully deserved it."
There have been numerous rallies and protests to call for free and quality education for all Chileans. Report by Ashley Fudge.
